It is a tray rim with no spokes in the middle. It lifts the tray above it to make room for bulky produce, and is the traditional way to dry long-stem flowers. Because it is open, heated air keeps flowing evenly through the stack.
It sits in the stack like a tray but holds nothing itself — it creates the gap. It counts toward the 30-tray maximum.
