Snacks are so often high in carbohydrates and refined sugars that they rarely actually satisfy our hunger. The reason is that they lack protein which helps keep us satiated longer. Jerky is a great solution. It is easy to store and carry with you anywhere and it’s delicious. Having something that you really need to get your teeth into and chew also helps keep cravings at bay.
Jerky can be expensive though, and often contains unwanted preservatives and other artificial flavour enhances. But it’s so easy to make natural jerky with the Ezidri Dehydrator!
Ingredients:
- -500g lean beef, fat and sinew removed (we used sirloin)
- -1/4 cup soy sauce
- -1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- -1/4 cup brown sugar
- -2 tablespoons smokey barbecue seasoning (or any other seasoning that takes your fancy)
- -1 teaspoon sea salt
Method:
You’ll need to cut the beef nice and thin, the best way to do this is to slice it when it is partially frozen.
- We simply sliced ours before it fully defrosted.
- In a bowl mix together the remaining ingredients.
- Add the sliced beef and combine so the beef is well coated.
- Marinate for 6-12 hours in the refrigerator.
Once your beef has fully absorbed all the yummy seasoning, lay the strips of beef out on the Ezidri Dehydrator trays, to help with the cleanup you can use either the solid or mesh sheets.
Dehydrate at 50ºC for 8-12 hours until completely dry.
Store in an airtight container for up to a month. Please note the way you store will have an impact on the life of the product.
