This healthy homemade granola is the perfect way to start your day. Sweetened only with orange juice and a little honey, it is much lower in sugar than most other breakfast cereals ensuring you have plenty of energy for the morning without any nasty blood sugar spikes.
Ingredients
8-10 perfectly ripe apricots
5 cups porridge oats
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
1 cup coconut threads
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup honey
Method
Stone the apricots and turn out the apricot so that the flesh pops out.
Place in the Ezidri dehydrator at 55ºC for 16 hours.
To make the granola, mix all the ingredients, except the orange juice and honey, in a large bowl. Heat up the orange juice in a small pot and add the honey to melt. Pour the orange juice/honey mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.
You can either dehydrate the granola using the Ezidri dehydrator at 70ºC for 6 hours, or alternatively, you can gently toast the granola in the oven at 150ºC for 20-30 minutes, until golden.
When the Apricots have dried, but are still slightly pliable, cut into small pieces and mix with the granola.
Keep the granola in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
I make fruit straps fir tge grandchildren. I can now use all my trays with the mesh sheets. I love my ezidri
Have only used it a few times so far but it worked brilliantly. Have done blueberries, kiwi fruit and pears and they were lovely.
We had one of these previously and worked it to death. We purchased another brand which was more expensive and had more features but it was useless. The op shop gained it. I would certainly recommend this, we use it daily.
Great dehydrator, easy to use, easy to clean. Would purchase again.
I love my Ezidri and the fact that I can use the shelves from my old Harvest Maid dryer (when the motor blew up after 40 years of a lot of use) so I now have a good stack for when I'm drying a lot of fruit. The new one works as well as the old one and I'm hopeful it will see me out!
