Dehydrated Bolognese sauce is the perfect solution for adventurers who want to enjoy a delicious, home-style dinner without carrying heavy ingredients. Lightweight, easy to rehydrate, and packed with the rich flavours of tomatoes, herbs, and savoury ground meat, this sauce is a game-changer for camping, hiking, or hunting trips. Ingredients:
- 400g minced heef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, finely grated
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cans (400g) diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian herbs
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Spaghetti (enough for 2-4 servings)
Method
- Heat olive oil in a large heavy based pot. Add the onions and sauté until softened. Then add the garlic and cook for a further minute.
- Increase the heat and add the mince and grated carrot. Breaking up and cooking until browned.
- Add the cans of tomato, tomato paste and the herbs, seasoning to taste.
- Cook for a further 10-15 minutes until thickened..
- Allow the mix to cool.
- Line 2-3 Ezi Dri Dehydrator trays with solid sheets and spread the Bolognese mixture out in a thin layer over each of the trays.
- Place into the Ezi Dri Dehydrator and dehydrate at 55°C for 8 hours or until the mix is completely dry and crisp.
- Store in an airtight container until ready to use.
- To rehydrate, simply pour the mix into a pot and add water so it is just covering the mince. Bring to a very gentle simmer and cook slowly for 20-30 minutes until the Bolognese is thick, rich and completely rehydrated. Serve over pasta for a simple and delicious meal on your camping, hiking or hunting trip
